After the 2020 war, 193 indigenous Armenian settlements in Artsakh came under the control of Azerbaijan. According to the data of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Church, 210 churches and monasteries under the jurisdiction of the Diocese are occupied. And if we inventory all the monuments, then according to experts, their number will exceed 10,000. How does the appropriation of cultural property directly violate a fundamental human right? How can the protection of cultural rights, including through courts, contribute to the realization of Artsakh's right to self-determination? We discuss with cultural heritage expert Armine Tigranyan.
