New trend: fine art industry


In recent years, companies that transform contemporary fine art into applied art pieces - scarves, jewelry, designer clothing - have become very popular in Armenia. What potential does this emerging industry have in Armenia? How are applied art companies positioned in the market and what role do they play in the processes of creating contemporary art? Anahit Margaryan spoke with Arevik Arakelyan, founder of the Artuyt company, and Lusine Avdalyan, founder of the LAVart 

Vache Sharafyan


The opening concert of the 16th Festival of Armenian Composers' Art will be marked by the premiere of Vache Sharafyan's "Graceful, Prayerful" symphony, dedicated to the 850th anniversary of the repose of St. Nerses the Graceful, the Patriarch of All Armenians and the rededication of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin. The fourth edition of the “Bilingual Dramatic Workshop” in Armenia: Serzh Avetikian is on “Artfocus”
 
The “Bilingual Dramatic Workshop” has been operating for 3 years at the initiative of French-Armenian actor, film director, and producer Serzh Avetikian. As in previous years, this year too the workshop will bring together 25 young actors and will provide them with the opportunity to get acquainted with the methodology of work of internationally recognized guest artists, the traditions and trends of modern theater and cinema. At the end of the program, ten young artists will have the opportunity to undergo professional internship in France. Serzh Avetikian spoke about the “Bilingual Dramatic Workshop,” as well as other theater and cinema projects, on “Artfocus.” The program was hosted by Anahit Margaryan.

The interactions of religion and culture


Christmas, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection have been key themes of Christian culture for nearly 2,000 years. These most significant historical events of all time have been retold for centuries through spiritual and secular music, various forms of fine art, theater, and cinema. Anahit Margaryan's guest on "Artfocus" is Doctor of Art History, Professor Mher Navoyan, who reflected on the manifestations of Christianity in art, the interactions of religion and culture.

Two new performences


The Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theater premiered two performances at the beginning of the year. The year was significant for the theater in terms of the implementation of innovative projects. The theater studio was reopened, the “Panno” art house was created, which is a local platform for artists. The “Yerevan International Theater Festival” provided a unique opportunity for theater-loving audiences to discover the performances of the world-renowned Simon Abgaryan Theater Company. The presentation of the collection of children's poems entitled "Your First Words" by poet, translator and writer Hovhannes Grigoryan took place at the "Zangak" bookstore, which was accompanied by a puppet staged reading by actors Aghasi Melkonyan and Liana Nikoghosyan. The book was published at the initiative of the author's family. Anahit Margaryan's guests at "Artfocus" are Hovhannes Grigoryan's daughter, business consultant Sona Grigoryan, and actor, puppeteer Aghasi Melkonyan.

Museum Soldier: Shahen Khachatryan


The premiere of the documentary film “Museum Soldier: Shahen Khachatryan” filmed by “Shoghakat” TV company took place at the Henrik Malyan Theater. It presents exclusive details about Shahen Khachatryan, an art critic, long-time director of the Martiros Saryan House-Museum and the National Gallery, and the author of several dozen art books, picture books, and catalogs. The idea and script for the film are by journalist, editor, and translator Lilik Stepanyan. The director is Artak Avetyan. Anahit Margaryan hosted the film’s authors at “Artfocus”.

Are the Yezidis in Armenia able to preserve their national identity?

Edik Poghosyan: "Theatrical Posters – Armenia" International Biennale


From November 19 to December 15, the only international large-scale event in the field of graphic design in Armenia, the “Theatrical Posters – Armenia” International Biennale, was held for the second time at the Sundukyan National Academic Theater. The new children's play "Are You Angry?" by the National Theater

The premiere of the stage adaptation of Hovhannes Tumanyan's "Master and Servant" and Hans Christian Andersen's "The Old Man Knows His Business" fairy tales was presented at the Sos Sargsyan National Theater on September 9. Ingenious, beautiful design, inspiring music, fairy-tale lighting, brilliant acting, active participation of children in the theatrical action. The Idea of ​​the Mother Goddess from Paganism to Christianity
