Director Armen Gulakyan directed the first Armenian State Theater for many years, which was named after Gabriel Sundukyan at his suggestion. Gulakyan also directed the Spendiaryan Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet. The productions he produced at both places are considered masterpieces in the history of those two theaters.
