Nelson Stepanyan

Nelson Stepanyan and Hovhannes Baghrmyan are the only Armenians among the many Armenians to receive the double title of Hero of the USSR during World War II. Nelson Stepanyan, a pilot from Shushi by birth, was the horror of the Germans. As he was taking to the air, the Germans were raising a special alarm, spreading the message that Nelson was in the air. His image has always been identified with heroism, courage and self-sacrifice. In fact, the Armenian hero had a lyrical description, he was a real Armenian and a deep thinker.
