Armenian cinema began with the screening of a literary work; in 1925 the film "Namus" was released based on Shirvanzade's novel. The first Armenian sound film again had a literary basis: in 1935 Hamo Bek-Nazaryan screened Gabriel Sundukyan's "Pepo".  It is interesting that Hayk Ordyan's recently released film "Zulali" is again inspired by literature. What are the features of literary cinema, what does it lose or gain when the song is screened, does the book determine the glory of cinema or vice versa?  These issues are discussed in parallel by literary critics Hayk Hambardzumyan and Arkmenik Nikoghosyan.
